Bridge Engineer

Summit Design and Engineering Services, PLLC is seeking a qualified engineer for the design of simple and complex bridges and a variety of transportation related structures.

Responsibilities:

Working under an experienced transportation structural design manager, this engineer will assist with the structural design and detailing of bridges, which will primarily consist of steel, concrete, and precast/pre-stress construction for roadway applications. Projects may also include pedestrian facilities in timber or steel. Other transportation related structures will include culverts (cast-in-place reinforced concrete and precast), retaining walls and other structural elements required for transportation projects.

The position will work within the Structural Engineering group in our Raleigh office, assisting our in-house Roadway Design group. Projects will involve roadway/highway design, municipal streets, and pedestrian facilities (greenways, multi-use trails). Opportunities may exist to cross-train and assist the department with building structural projects as well.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BSCE or MSCE degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in structural design for transportation projects.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Code Requirements and experience with NCDOT-recognized structural design and modeling software is required.
• Experience with Microstation/Open Roads is required; Autocad and/or Revit experience is beneficial.
• EI Certification is required, with the ability to obtain PE license within 2 years.
• NCDOT and VDOT design experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of NCDOT structure design standards and practices and experience in project development workflow are preferred for the position.
• Ability to direct work of technicians and designers
• Position requires strong engineering analysis and judgment, proactive attitude, and excellent communication skills.
