CEI Inspector

Summit Design and Engineering is seeking qualified CEI Inspectors to engineers and other professional in the administration of highway construction projects located in and around the Tampa area and throughout Florida. We are looking for individuals to perform construction inspection (roadway and structure), materials testing and project surveying while ensuring program and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations for compliance with contract documents, standards and specifications.
• Review plans, analysis of engineering related data and construction surveying and layout.
• Perform and maintain daily record keeping of project activities, resolve daily constructability issues and trouble shoot problems to mitigate delays.
• Monitors contractor's daily operations and performs and/or reviews test reports to ensure that all work and materials conform to specifications, plans and contractual provisions.
• Document pay records, perform construction calculation, and computer/iPad entry
• Anticipate contractual problems and advise supervisor of the need for plan revisions, supplemental agreements, or other contract adjustments to improve safety, timely delivery and/or quality of delivered product.
• Effectively communicate and coordinate work with contractors, subcontractors, utility owners, and property owners to minimize delays and disturbances while maximizing progress of the projects.
• Perform materials sampling and testing and input test results into various computer data bases

Skills and Qualifications:

• Associate degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution is preferred
• 0-2 years of progressive inspection level experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra, geometry, trigonometry and the ability to apply formulas.
• Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
• Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
• Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion.
• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up-to 70 pounds, on occasion.
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive.
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
