CMT - Senior Engineering Technician

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking an individual to work in our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Department as a Senior Engineering Technician.  Our preferred candidate will have 3-8 years of experience performing various CMT field and/or laboratory tests. Any Special Inspections Certifications would be a plus.   

Responsibilities:

• Accurately perform inspections for various materials (e.g. - soil, concrete, structural steel, structural masonry, deep foundations, exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS), and fireproofing for industrial, commercial, residential or municipality projects in accordance with applicable standards.
• Read and interpret design drawings and construction specifications.
• Observe work procedures and verify compliance with job specifications.
• Create accurate and detailed inspection reports.
• Interact and communicate with general contractors, site supervisors, architects, structural engineers, and client representatives.
• Ability to obtain additional ICC Certifications with training.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma, Associates, Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
• 3-8 years of experience performing onsite inspections and testing of various materials.
• Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry and ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments.
• Proficient in the use of IPads, Microsoft Office, email and Dropbox.
• Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions. Good written and verbal communication skills.

• ACI / NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Level 1
• ICC Soils ICC Reinforced Concrete
• ICC Masonry
• ICC Structural Steel and Bolting
• ICC Structural Welding
• ICC Spray-Applied Fireproofing
• NCDOT Certifications

Candidates will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including hazards at construction sites. Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights.   Must have valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Criminal background check will be performed.
