Construction Materials Testing Technician

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technicians to test concrete and soil for highway and bridge construction in the Chesapeake, VA area.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalency with 0-3 years of relevant experience
• Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry.
• Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
• Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge and structure plans and contract specifications.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion.
• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion.
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed.
• Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive.

Preferred Skills, Qualifications and Certifications:

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of roadway, structure and bridge construction methods, materials, standards, construction symbols and terminology.
• Working knowledge of state and federal safety guidelines and regulations.
• Prior experience working with construction inspections or material testing.
• VDOT or NICET Level II Soil and Aggregate Compaction
• ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
• Nuclear Gauge Safety and Hazmat Training
• OSHA 10-Hours OSHA Safety Training
