ENTRY LEVEL PROJECT ENGINEER

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking an entry level Project Engineer to work as a Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI) Project Engineers to assist with inspection and project management in and around the Triangle Area.  This position will consist of assisting Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers with project administration, quantity tracking, materials acceptance, etc.  Primary focus will be on NCDOT and Local Municipality roadway and structures construction.

 Responsibilities:

• Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations and perform a variety of calculations and computations with supervision
• Attend and successfully complete NCDOT materials sampling and testing certification courses
• Perform materials sampling and testing, including asphalt, concrete and soils
• Keep various project records/ reports
• Take field measurements of various completed items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities
• Assist with data entry for project materials and pay quantities.
• Assist with field investigations and real life problem solving.

 Qualifications:

• BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with a focus transportation, structures or construction preferred
• Strong computer skills including, using an iPad and Microsoft Windows, and the ability to learn new programs as necessary
• Detail orientated
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Flexibility with working in the office and field dependent on project needs.
• Ability to work in a team environment

Candidates will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including hazards at highway construction sites.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.  Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 8 hours a day on occasion.  Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights. 

Must have valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.   Criminal background check will be performed.
