Entry Level Field Geologist

Summit Design and Engineering, one of the fastest growing companies in the Triangle area, is seeking a and entry-level Field Geologist for our Geotechnical/CMT Department in our Raleigh office.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in the coordination, preparation and performance of field activities such as collecting soil, rock, and groundwater samples, including classifying soil samples, identifying and classifying rock core, identifying and mapping any rock outcrop within the project area.
• Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests and aerial photographs to evaluation, plan and permit projects.
• Assist with coordinating property owner and utility coordination on projects when necessary.
• Assist in identifying technical issues and contribute to development approaches to solve problems.
• Oversee drilling and testing in the field.
• Record retrieval and research for upcoming projects.
• Review and analyze data. Writing field reports and data compilation. 
• Direct field personnel and supervise drillers as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Geology. 
• Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox and/or OneDrive.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. 
• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion.
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive.
• Ability to travel to work sites and stay overnight as needed
