Geologic Intern

Do you want to spend your summer gaining practical experience in the geotechnical field? Do you want to make your resume stand out from all the other resumes in your graduating class? Come join us as a Geologic Intern to support a Geologist, Engineers, and Drillers in conducting subsurface investigations. Work will primarily consist of transporting, maintaining and assisting in the operation of field drilling activities. It will also consist of working in a NCDOT certified soils testing lab.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Follow all safety precautions
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment and setting up site
  • Assist with all drilling processes
  • Complete Driller's Logs on Private Sector Projects
  • Drive Drilling Support Truck when needed
  • Complete daily mileage log
  • Accurately perform various laboratory tests in accordance with applicable standards and record test data
  • Calculate and enter soil test data into the appropriate report formats
  • Consistently submit test results on-time for review and transmission to clients
  • Coordinate multiple tests at the same time
  • Track and calibrate all lab equipment
  • Assist with the maintenance of all current lab certifications

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Enrolled in a 4-year program for Geology program
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, with a safe driving record
  • Ability to travel to work sites and stay overnight as needed
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds on occasion
  • Experience and ability to use various hand tools

 

Must be reliable and willing to work in extreme weather conditions. Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain. Other physical requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability stand up to 12 hours per day, ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb and balance and ability to grasp with your hands, extend arms and work overhead. Will be required to maintain a safe work environment including the use of personal protective equipment such as safety steel-toe shoes, hard hat, ear protection, safety glasses, safety vest, etc.

 

Job offer will be conditioned on successfully completing a post-offer medical job-specific test and criminal background check.
