Geotechnical Operations Manager


Summit's Geotechnical Engineering department is seeking an individual with proven geotechnical engineering design, project management, and operational leadership experience and who exemplifies industry leading knowledge in project delivery and client service. This person will join a growing and highly successful department consisting of exceptionally experienced and driven engineers, geologists and supporting technical staff. It's our vision that the selected candidate would reside in North Carolina and will report to the group's department manager.


The primary function of this role is to drive, support and elevate our geotechnical group; to collaboratively work within the group to exceed client expectations through effective client communication, planning and executing project work, monitoring and controlling project budgets to deliver services while working to expand Summit's client base. Another important function of this role will be working with junior team members to provide mentorship, personnel training and QA/QC design practices.


Qualifications:


  • 15-20+ years of experience demonstrating progressive leadership in the geotechnical engineering business.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
  • Proven track record with managing client satisfaction, driving team collaboration on projects and pursuits, and business development.
  • Technical expertise with industry practices, policies and procedures, and other applicable design standards.
  • Ability to interface with clients and manage multiple projects simultaneously within scope, schedule and budget;
  • Capable manager with the ability to balance technical quality, resource development, and client identification and retention
  • Demonstrates industry-leading project management - including key performance indicators, client management, and risk management;

Responsibilities include:


  • Client Support and Business Development:
    • Front-line client management/interaction/communication with existing clients.
    • Provide and assist with developing opportunities for Summit to diversify our client base and project types.
    • Collaborate directly with leaders in the Department and Executive Leadership to develop new geotechnical business opportunities

  • Project Management:
    • Assist/drive project pursuits, teaming opportunities and statements of qualifications (SOQ) for project opportunities.
    • Capable of performing all aspects of project management for multiple projects ranging in scope, complexity, and contract values.
    • Lead team of project managers to deliver successful portfolio of projects.

  • Technical Collaboration and Team Synergy:
    • Collaborate effectively with individuals and organizations externally, as well as, internally within our project team.
    • Be an ambassador for exciting growth opportunities for Summit and our staff, and work within our tight-knit leadership team to mentor and facilitate the development of the staff within the office.
    • Set an example of excellence within the group and look for opportunities to mentor lower level staff and foster team synergies.
