IN-HOUSE COUNSEL

We are a growing civil engineering and design firm and have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join us as in-house counsel to review, manage and negotiate contacts as well as advise and support on other legal matters. This position would be based at either our Hillsborough or Raleigh offices.

Responsibilities:

• Review, interpret, negotiate, and provide counsel regarding contractual obligations and requirements of applicable law and regulations. The types of contracts will include, but will not be limited to, master service and subcontractor agreements, change orders, commercial agreements, real estate purchases and sales agreements, and leases.
• Design, evaluate and update terms and conditions of internal templates used
• Support responses to professional liability, commercial insurance and worker compensation claims
• Provide guidance, analysis, advice, and proactive solutions to aid in successfully resolving a wide variety of challenges for our Operations and Corporate groups (Leadership, HR, Accounting, Billing, Marketing, IT, etc.)
• Monitor and maintain awareness of pending and existing legislation, regulations and developments that are relevant to our industry
• Develop legal strategies and planning in response to issues or disputes; work closely with parties to negotiate and resolve these matters.
• Engage and manage outside counsel, as needed.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree and license to practice law in the US (required); NC law license preferred
• At least 3+ years of experience practicing law preferably with exposure to the engineering or construction industry
• Knowledge of Federal, sate and local laws governing contract law
• Experience with contract modification, interpretation and negotiation

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• Ability to work on complex projects with general direction and minimal guidance
• Self-starter with strong attention to detail
• Strong organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat and DocuSign
