LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a technician to support our Geotechnical and Materials-Testing laboratory in our Indian Trail office.  The ideal candidate will be able to perform soil and concrete testing according to applicable ASTM, ACI, and/or NCDOT standards in a repeatable, accurate manner.  Also, the technician will be able to communicate test results via applicable computer software. 

Cross-training will be provided with respect to our other services lines.  As such, the technician will also occasionally be asked to perform both soil and concrete tests in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Accurately perform various laboratory tests in accordance with applicable standards and record test data.
• Calculate and enter test data into the appropriate report formats.
• Consistently submit test results on-time for review and transmission to clients.
• Coordinate multiple tests at the same time.
• Track and calibrate all lab equipment.
• Assist with the maintenance of all current lab certifications.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency using MS Office
• Ability to read and understand test standards
• Ability to complete applicable laboratory tests
• Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work independently or with a team
• Valid driver's license with a safe driving record

One or more of the Certifications (or ability to obtain within 6 weeks of hire):

• ACI/NCDOT Concrete Field Testing
• ACI Concrete Strength Testing
• ACI Aggregate Lab Level I
• NCDOT Asphalt Batch Plant Technician Level I

Candidates will be subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, in addition to hazards at construction sites, including heights, heavy equipment and highway traffic.  Must be able to stand and walk on uneven surfaces.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel.  Must be able to complete a post-offer fit for duty test.
