Maintenance Engineer I

Summit Design and Engineering, one of the fastest growing companies in the Triangle area, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Engineer I. This position would need to be available to work on projects in the Triangle area.

Responsibilities:

• Function as a Maintenance Engineer I for various roadways, structures, and asset maintenance operations on DOT and Municipal projects.
• Reconcile daily dairies, sample cards, asphalt report, material received, and monthly estimates for small projects.
• Provide support and facilitate supplemental training for inspection staff to ensure NCDOT certifications are maintained.
• Create, maintain and review project reports and records.
• Attend/Run progress and coordination meetings.
• Learn and operate NCDOT Wigins structure management software to assist with NBIS inspections.
• Assist internal staff.
• Assist with GIS database management and field data collection.
• Clearly and concisely convey information orally or in writing to individual or groups.
• Interpret plans and specifications and ensure work is performed in accordance with same.
• Assist with tracking contractor's progress.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BS in Civil Engineering.
• Ability to read resource materials to determine answers to simple inspection requirements.
• Ability to use own judgment and make decisions.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office.
• Proficiency with iPad/Tablet for daily data entry.
• Working knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry and ability to apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine field adjustments.
• Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports as needed.
• Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently.
• Ability to train and lead other inspectors.
• Strong time management skills.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion.
• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion.
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Experience with GIS
• Experience with Microstation
