Summit Design and Engineering is seeking NPDES Inspector I positions in central North Carolina to conduct inspections on permitted, active construction sites. This position is salaried and is eligible for our annual bonus program.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree or a combination of equivalent education, knowledge and experience
• Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite, Outlook, OneDrive (and other online storage programs).
• Ability to work independently, use own judgment, and make decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to obtain thorough knowledge of NC and federal NPDES programs and permits.
• Ability to obtain thorough knowledge of the NC Sediment Act, the NC Sediment Rules. Ability to read, understand and apply related rules, regulations and permits.
• Ability to learn to communicate effectively with regulatory agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
• Ability to read and interpret (or to learn to read and interpret) approved erosion and sediment control and stormwater plans for any type of construction project.
• Working knowledge of mathematics in algebra, geometry, and trigonometry, and the ability to apply formulas.
• Ability to read and interpret permit requirements and project documentation.
• Ability to (or to learn to conduct) conduct field inspections as assigned, and draft and issue detailed electronic reports utilizing (at a minimum) reporting software and the Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to maintain and update related project documentation, or the ability to learn the processes to keep updated project records.
• Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion.
• Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance, and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when needed
• Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
• Valid Driver's license with a good driving record and ability to drive.

CERTIFICATIONS (PREFERRED)

• Ability to obtain the NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control certification within 45 days of employment
