PART-TIME HELP DESK SUPPORT TECHNICIAN I

Summit Design and Engineering Services is a multi-disciplined civil engineering and design firm.  We are looking for a part-time Help Desk Support Technician to support our users at our various locations.  This position would be based in our Hillsborough office, but must be able to travel to our other locations in North Carolina and Virginia.  The candidate for this position will be expected to work approximately 15-20 hours per week.  There is some flexibility of when the hours can be worked during our normal 8:00 am 5:00 pm work day. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Provide help desk support for all users of the IT assets and systems.
  • Identify and prioritize tickets according to priority and defer tickets to higher level support as needed
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment/network malfunctions and corrects them as directed by process manuals or Network Engineer
  • Set-up and provide new computer equipment with required software programs, network drives, network printers, etc.
  • Provide new hires and current employees with IT training relevant to their position
  • Any other task or projects assigned by the Network Engineer or management

Requirements:

  • High school diploma with 2-4 years of experience or Associates or Bachelors in Information Technology with 0-2 years of years of experience or current student in IT an IT program
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle multiple help requests at the same time and prioritize those requests
  • Ability to train others in computer systems
  • Strong knowledge of virus removal, O.S. Repairs (windows only), spyware removal, hardware upgrades, and troubleshooting of computer stability issues
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory environments, specifically:
    • Creation, modification, and group assignments of users
    • Password reset functions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server File Sharing
    • Modifying permissions and group memberships to provide/deny access as necessary
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Printing services in a Domain Environment
    • Understands how to deploy, upgrade, and troubleshoot printers that are shared through a server

Optional, but recommended:

  • Knowledge of Ipad/Iphone applications and mail setup
  • Knowledge of mobile device management platforms and techniques preferred
  • Knowledge of Android tablet/phone applications and mail setup
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products (Outlook, word, excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with MS Project a plus, but not required
  • A+, Network+, MTA, MOS certifications considered a plus
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds on occasion
  • Must be able to bend, stoop and kneel
