Project Engineer

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking an entry level Project Engineer to work as a Maintenance Management Project Engineers to assist with inspection and project management in and around the Triangle Area.  This position will consist of assisting Project Managers and Senior Project Engineers with project administration, data collection, contract proposal preparation, etc.  Primary focus will be on NCDOT and Local Municipality roadway maintenance operations.

 Responsibilities:

• Assist in the inspection of various roadways and structures construction operations and perform a variety of calculations and computations with supervision
• Assist with Snow and Ice removal coordination and inspection
• Keep various project records/reports
• Assist with maintenance task contract prep and proposals
• Assist with data collection for resurfacing, pavement preservation and maintenance contracts
• Assist with field investigations and problem solving

 Qualifications:

• BS in Civil Engineering or Construction Management with a focus in transportation, hydraulics or construction preferred
• Strong computer skills including, using an iPad and Microsoft Windows, MicroStation/AutoCAD, ESRI GIS, and the ability to learn new programs as necessary
• Detail orientated
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Flexibility with working in the office and field dependent on project needs.
• Ability to work in a team environment

Candidates will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including hazards at highway construction sites.  Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion.  Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 8 hours a day on occasion.  Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights.
