RESIDENT ENGINEER

Summit is seeking a Resident Engineer to work on the Monroe Bypass project in Division 10.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Interpret professional engineering, techniques, practices and procedures
  • Interpret local, state and federal rules/regulations governing the area of work
  • Develop strategies to improve quality of service, performance, and budgetary/operational efficiency
  • Review and approve work often regarding more complex or unique issues. May have approval authority
  • Manage complex work situations and anticipate potentially problematic situations and recommend solutions
  • Implement response to a situation based on interpretation of local, state and federal rules/regulations and standards
  • Apply innovative solutions and/or engineering designs where appropriate
  • Lead and direct the development and implementation of new rules, policies and/or procedures.  May require ability to participate in the development and implementation of vision and mission statements
  • Communicate major and/or complex situations and actions, internal and external to the organization
  • Serve as a technical resource in developing response to the media
  • Review and approve more complex written reports and unique issues and ensures effective articulation of written conclusions
  • Ensure that rules and regulations are interpreted correctly, internal and external to the organization
  • Manage staff, including delegate and assign work, evaluate performance and handle employee relation issues and disciplinary actions
  • Manage the competencies of total staff and seek sources and opportunities for employee training and growth.
  • Involve employees in strategic planning and implementation and in the development of policies and procedures in the area of assignment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and 10 years of related engineering experience or an equivalent combination of      education and experience
  • PE license, preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NCDOT policies and procedures preferred. 
  • Prior management or supervisory experience
  • Professional presentation skills and above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Effective collaboration skills
  • Proactive and innovative problem resolution skills

Must have valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.   Criminal background check will be performed.
