ROADWAY DESIGNER

Roadway Designer

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a Roadway Designer to become part of our Transportation Design Group located in our Raleigh office. The Roadway Designer will use MicroStation, GeoPak and Corridor Modeling to design roadways/highways, municipal streets, and pedestrian facilities (greenways, multi-use trails) using company and industry standards and codes. This position would also be expected to assist in the development of Traffic Control and Erosion Control Plans.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Use project specification, detailed drawings, and verbal instructions to complete assignments
• Perform calculations, prepares material and specifications, and provides preliminary sketches and notes for drawings.
• Work closely with engineer/project managers to obtain project information, recommend changes, and ensure drawings are accurate and complete.

Skills and Qualifications:

• BS in Civil Engineering with 1-3 years of progressive transportation design experience or AAS in Civil Engineering with 3-5 years progressive transportation design experience
• Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Exam is preferred
• Understanding of design principles, standards, and practices
• Experience with NCDOT design standards and practices is preferred
• Proficient with MicroStation/GeoPak preferred
• Proficient with Corridor Modeling preferred
• Ability to analyze and interpret information from multiple sources to complete assigned tasks/projects
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to work productively with limited direct oversight and management
• Effective writing and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated, meticulous, and able to meet project specific standards and timelines
• Ability to collaborate
