Roadway Design Manager

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking a qualified individual who is passionate in leading and supporting the development of transportation design projects and plans. This position is part of our Civil Engineering Department in North Carolina. Projects will involve roadway/highway design, transportation management, municipal streets, and pedestrian facilities (greenways, multi-use trails).

Responsibilities:

• Provide oversight and prepare construction documents and specifications
• Prepare reports and studies
• Participate in project/contracting scoping, fee development, contract negotiations, and execution
• Oversee others and participate in performing designs for all types of roadway infrastructure projects based on AASHTO, NCDOT, and/or local municipalities design standards and criteria
• Interact with clients and public agencies as needed
• Prepare and participate in public meetings and presentations as needed
• Manage and train support staff
• Assist with project pursuits in providing technical expertise on proposals and marketing meetings

Skills and Qualifications:

• BSCE or BSCET degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive design experience in all aspects of transportation design; or equivalent level of experience
• PE license in NC
• Advanced knowledge of and experience in roadway and transportation management design
• Advance knowledge of and experience with Microstation, Geopack, Corridor Modeling and Open Roads are required
• Thorough knowledge of NCDOT design standards and practices and experience in project development
• Strong engineering analysis and judgment
• Experience in managing and organizing multiple tasks and related disciplines
• Ability to manage and train support staff
• Proactive and self-motivated attitude

• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

• Ability to work collaboratively

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• PE license in other states.

• NCDOT design experience
• Survey experience and data management
