Senior Inspector/Senior Engineer Intern

Summit Design and Engineering Services is looking for a Senior Inspector/Senior Engineer Intern to join our Construction Engineering Inspection Department within the Tampa, Tallahassee, Orlando, Fort Meyers, Miami, Jacksonville and throughout Florida.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring on-site construction activities.
  • Inspecting materials to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and special provisions for the construction contract.
  • Maintain detailed records of the contractor's daily operations.
  • Monitoring and inspecting contractor's Work Zone Traffic Control Plan as well as reviewing modifications to the plan.
  • Preparing field inspection reports.
  • Transporting samples to be tested in a Department laboratory or appropriate facility.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of five years of relevant construction inspection experience, two (2) years of which shall have been in bridge and/or roadway construction inspection or Bachelor's in Civil Engineering with one year of year of road & bridge construction engineering inspection experience with the ability to earn additional required qualifications within one year.
  • Requires one year experience as an registered Engineer Intern.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics in both algebra and geometry.
  • Proficient in the use of iPad, Microsoft Office Suite, and OneDrive.
  • Ability to work independently, use own judgment and make decisions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 12 hours a day on occasion. 
  • Must have the ability to bend, stoop, kneel and twist, use hands to grasp and arms to reach, to raise hands above head, to sit, climb and balance and to work in confined spaces and heights with adequate vision to perform tasks.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up-to 50 pounds, on occasion.
  • Ability to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Valid Driver's license with good driving record and ability to drive.

  • CTQP Concrete Field Inspector Level II
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level I
  • CTQP Asphalt Roadway Level II
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level I
  • CTQP Earthwork Construction Inspection Level II
  • CTQP Pile Driving Inspection
  • CTQP Drilled Shaft Inspection (required for inspection of all drilled shafts including miscellaneous structures such as sign structures, lighting structures, and traffic signal structures)
  • IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I
  • CTQP Final Estimates Level I
  • FDOT Intermediate MOT
  • Nuclear Radiation Safety
