Senior Traffic Project Engineer

Summit Design and Engineering Services, one of the fastest growing companies in the Triangle area, is seeking a full or part-time Senior Traffic Project Engineer. The position will work within the Transportation Design Group within our Infrastructure Engineering Branch in our Raleigh office. Projects will primarily involve NCDOT roadway/highway projects but will also involve municipal streets and pedestrian facilities (greenways, multi-use trails).

Responsibilities:

• Lead and assist in the development of transportation management, pavement marking and signing designs and plans. 
• Interaction with clients and public agencies will be required; participation in public meetings and presentations will be required regularly.
• Management and training of project staff.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology with a minimum of 10 years of progressive transportation design experience.
• PE license required in North Carolina, registration in other states favorable.
• Advanced knowledge of and experience in transportation management design, complex project phasing, sign design, and associated traffic analysis.
• Thorough knowledge of NCDOT transportation management design standards, MUTCD protocols and requirements, and experience in general project development workflow.
• Self-motivated with management or leadership experience. 
• Strong engineering analysis and judgment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as on teams. 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• NCDOT experience.
• Familiarity with Microstation, Geopack and Corridor Modeling is preferred.
• Expertise in traffic engineering with disciplines such as TIA/capacity analysis, traffic signal and ITS design, and signal system timing plans is a plus.
