Structure Design Engineer

Summit Design and Engineering Services, PLLC is seeking a qualified individual to lead and assist in the design of simple and complex bridges and a variety of transportation related structures. Bridge design will primarily involve steel, concrete and precast/pre-stress construction for roadway applications, but will also include pedestrian facilities. Other transportation related structures will include culverts (cast-in-place reinforced concrete and precast), retaining walls and other structural elements required for transportation projects. The position will work within the Transportation Design Group of our Infrastructure Engineering Branch in our Raleigh or Hillsborough offices. Projects will involve roadway/highway design, municipal streets, and pedestrian facilities (greenways, multi-use trails). Thorough knowledge of NCDOT design standards and practices and experience in project development work flow are required for the position.

Candidates should have a BSCE or MSCE degree with a minimum of 10 years of progressive design experience in structure design for transportation projects. Advanced knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Code Requirements and experience with NCDOT-recognized structural design and modeling software is required. Experience with Microstation is required; Autocad experience is beneficial. PE license is required. NCDOT and VDOT design experience is preferred. Individuals should be self-motivated and experienced in managing and organizing multiple tasks and related disciplines. Management and development of lower level support staff is regularly required; interaction with clients and public agencies will be required regularly. Position requires strong engineering analysis and judgment, proactive attitude, and excellent communication skills. Participation in public meetings and presentations will be required occasionally.
